In this age of stiff competition, you need to stand out effectively. What better than a pen. Cost effective, stays in front of your customer, is passed by one customer to another - often in the same industry. When they need your product or service your name and brand is at hand - literally.




There are plenty of boring pens out there. All of our pens are nice, different, multi coloured. Choose which is best for your budget. All prices are excluding GST, this needs to be added.

Most of the direction in the promotional products area is provided by EPIís managing director, Norman Wood (44). Maybe youíd like to know a little about the people youíll be dealing with when you call.


Norman was born in Auckland, his ancestors were very early settlers in NZ. He worked in his familyís factory as a young man. Norman studied at Massey University Palmerston North, Auckland and Otago Universities and London. He graduated top in his university class in the area of cartography (map drawing)/graphic design - the first A+ awarded. From there he worked as a management consultant in Wellington and for parliamentary services also standing a couple of times for parliament.


He has travelled extensively around the world, particularly the Pacific Islands, United States, Canada and Europe. He has a planning degree and is keen on improving the environment and is a director of a number of companies, including a plastics factory and Dunedin Historic Resort Limited

He is also a very talented marketer, graphic designer and artist. The ideal person to have behind your advertising effort, young enough, but very experienced in all things business.


The other person in the promotional team is Robin Colson who has worked in the printing and publishing industry for most of his life, and before joining Norman at EPI was the sales manager for a very large printing company.

Printing Setup Charges


Printing Setup $66.50 plus GST per colour/position.

Repeat Setup $38.00 plus GST per colour/position.




Laser Engraving Individual Names/Numbers


It is possible to laser engrave individuals names on pens. The price for this is 90c per name plus one setup charge of $66.50 for the total order.


Pre Production Samples


If the customer wants a pre production sample printed on the desired product. This requires us to proceed to film and plate making and we will charge accordingly: $66.50 per colour/position plus the cost of the product plus an additional $60.00. If the job is approved without changes the full job is charged at the repeat rate of $38.00 per colour/position plus the cost of the product and print.


Any changes will incur new setup charges.

Exact Quantities


We reserve the right to supply 5% above or below the quantity ordered.



The first 30 minutes spent on typesetting, artwork etc are included in the setup charge. After this, additional artwork will be charged at $75.60 per hour or increments thereof. We will inform you if there is likely to be an extra artwork charge and can give you a quote.

All film, plates and screens created by EPI Plastics in the production of an order will remain our property. We are able to provide copies of artwork or email images for customers to use elsewhere and the time involved to do so will be charged at the artwork rate with a minimum charge of $12.50.


Artwork Specifications


We prefer artwork in PC Freehand files with artwork editable and in vector format, text converted to paths/curves.

However, we understand that most of our clients will not be familiar with such things and we will do our best with what ever is supplied. If it requires artwork charges to get the artwork to a pre press standard we will give you a quote before we proceed.



Emailing Orders and Artwork


In the first instance these must be sent to - with your job name and order number in the subject heading.


How Fast?


Under normal circumstances delivery of printed products will be within 10 working days of the receipt of the permission to proceed once the proof has been okayed.


However, this may vary depending on the work load of the factory and we cannot be held responsible for orders taking longer than 10 days. Urgent orders are possible but you must specify this and we must acknowledge that early delivery is possible, but as mentioned above we can not be held responsible for delays.


Changing Refills (writing ink)


The standard refill colours of each pen are listed in the catalogue. If other refill colours are available they are also listed. Note some pens may also have a gel ink refill option.

There is a charge of 18c plus the cost of the refill to supply the pens with alternative refills. The standard refills that have been removed will be sent with the pens. For a full description of the refill changing procedure and refill prices see the section titled "Refills".




At EPI Plastics we will deliver for no extra charge as long as the order is over $300.00 plus GST and the delivery is to main centres and is not a rural delivery address. Delivery must be to a physical address and not a PO Box. Freight is either by overnight courier if economical, 2 day courier freight or for bulkier items by general freight (3 - 6 working days). If you require us to use a premium service to achieve your deadline this will be charged at the cost price, if such a cost exceeds $50.00 you will be informed before dispatch, otherwise the freight will be added to the invoice and must be paid.


Damaged or Lost Goods


We must be notified of any claims for lost or damaged goods while in transit within 7 days of the despatch date. Liability for any settlement rests with the carrier and we donít take liability for their actions.

Indent Service - The Cheapest Way to Go


Our indent service is a very effective way of reducing pen costs by buying in bulk. Your pens are made to order and printed or laser engraved in our overseas factories taking advantage of their lower production and printing costs. The pens that we offer an indent service for are indicated under the "Indent Options" heading on each page.


With the indent service you will still receive a proof sheet before production begins. Once this is okayed the order cannot be cancelled for any reason including late delivery.


Indent Service Lead Times


It is very important to remember that we achieve considerable savings by consolidating your order with others and sea freighting them in bulk. The lead time is 9-12 weeks which can be affected by delays in receiving useable artwork and approval of proofs. Also, from time to time we can also experience production or shipping delays that are beyond our control. It is advisable not to rely on indented pens for specific dates or events that are close to the 9 - 12 week lead time.

General Conditions of Sale


We reserve the right to supply 5% above or below the quantity ordered. The actual quantity delivered will be invoiced.


Payment is due on the 20th of the month following dispatch. Should Passion Plastics EPI Limited (generally referred to as EPI Plastics) not receive payment all costs of the collection process will be payable by the customer. We reserve the right to charge interest at 5% per annum above the National Banks unsecured debt base rate from the due date until the date of payment, all costs including legal fees in such circumstances will be payable by the customer.


We accept no liability for any loss sustained through late delivery from any cause whatsoever including negligence.


Before production begins you will receive a proof sheet. Once this is okayed the order cannot be cancelled for any reason including late delivery.


We will accept no liability whatsoever for errors or omissions on proofs okayed as correct.

All our pens are guaranteed against manufacturing defects and complaints must be made in writing within 21 days of the invoice date. Claims for defective goods will be settled by replacement and credit notes. Refunds will only be issued at our discretion.


All goods are printed with modern inks and using industry accepted printing processes. However, we shall not be held liable for inks wearing off products through wear and tear. We will match PMS colours as accurately as our inks will allow, but we cannot guarantee close matches on anything other than white surfaces.


Half tones and detailed graphics may reproduce less than perfectly on some products and we will take no responsibility for such imperfections other than where we have made recommendations to the customer on our proof sheets.


EPI Plastics shall not be held liable for errors where a proof has been submitted to and approved by the customer. We shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss or damage to the customer or for any loss to the customer arising from third party claims occasioned by carrying out the work.


Ownership of goods hereby sold shall remain with EPI Plastics until payment is received in full. EPI Plastics shall be entitled to recover from the customer the value of the goods (as invoiced) as a liquidated sum.


All costs for remedial action will be invoiced to the customerís account.


The customer acknowledges and agrees that personal and commercial information, which for purposes of this clause has the same meaning as under the Privacy Act 1993, collected by EPI Plastics can be used and disclosed for the following purposes: administering, whether directly or indirectly, our contracts and enforcing our rights thereunder; marketing goods and services provided by us; ascertaining at any time the customerís creditworthiness and obtaining at any time credit reports, character references or credit statements; enabling us to notify a credit agency of any application for credit or default on any obligation of the customer to us and enabling us to provide that personal information to any credit agency.


The customer hereby grants in accordance with the Personal Property Securities Act 1999 ("the PPSA") a security interest in respect of the goods purchased, all acquired property supplied by us to the customer, all future advances all proceeds of any nature and kind (including accounts receivable - "the Collateral") to secure the payment by the customer to us.


The above exclusions and limitations shall not apply to a customer as defined in the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. The customer agrees and acknowledges that either the customer does not fall within the definition of "consumer" within the Consumer Guarantees Act1999, or all supplies of goods and services by us to the customer will be acquired for the customerís business purposes and accordingly the provisions of the Consumer Guarantees Act 1999 will not apply. If this is not the case the customer must inform us in writing before the contract is entered into. We will reserve the right not to proceed with the contract.

There is a $66.50 plus GST ($70.88 incl GST) setup charge per colour. This covers the average amount of artwork to setup required.

Choose the pen that you like, at the back in black and white are all the costs of pens and printing (remember all prices in this catalogue are exclusive of GST).


Added to this is the cost of the print, usually about 18c plus GST for plastic pens (20c incl GST) per colour per print or 32c plus GST for metal pens (36c incl GST) per colour.


If you purchase more pens, the pen cost and print cost comes down per unit.


Deliver is normally about 10 working days after the artwork has been all sorted.
